Newsgroups & Listservers

If you are looking for like minded people who share a passion for a particular composer or style of music then Newsgroups and Listservers are the groups to search. These are mailing lists which you can opt in or out of at any time, join in the discussion by responding or posting via email and receive the responses per post or by daily or weekly digest. The topics covered are comprehensive covering every subject imaginable and available in various languages. List servers can be found using search engines, posting on newsgroups or at sites sharing similar interests. A link is provided which gives instructions on connecting with the list which you can view via the web or by receiving posts in your mailbox.

Although the links below are checked and updated periodically, these may change on a daily basis with old lists closing and new ones created. Always check the CataList official catalogue of listservers to find the most up to date lists - you may browse the CataList by country or search their database. Also browse and search the Yahoo Groups mail list directory. The list below is not extensive but focuses on music related List Servers - placed in alphabetical order with the exception of a couple of long serving well respected voice or blues related lists that may be of interest to our visitors.

To access a newsgroup open 'Outlook Express' or other mail program and click on 'Tools' then Newsgroups. It will then load thousands of newsgroup listings, use the descriptions and links to find relevant groups then save.  The list should now appear in your mail program.

The .sounds and other newsgroup lists are exhaustive but you can find a complete list in your ISP's newsgroup server.
